The Modern Life

A Poem

Life is happening here and now
to you.
You think of meaning and mystery,
You display your mental breakdown
to everyone and anyone through
memes, and pale screens
and candy colored lights.
But your body is still here,
your eyes, your skin, and breathe.
Your dreams, nightmares and pain.
Your victories, longings and contentment.

Yet you are alone.
You seek the loneliness of others
across vast distances, and you impose
loneliness on yourself. You participate
in the homogenization of existence, in an attempt
to quiet the part of you that wants to live.
