Thank You

A Poem

Thank you for this night β€” for death
and leaves that move across a lake of leaves
drying in accordance with the movements of the wind.

Thank you for the revolutions of the earth
and the voices that reach out across the void
in bars of black and strained against the light of day.

Thank you for the world as it is,
as it has always been. No matter the extent of pain
this lurching pain of breathing in each breath

Thank you for this unquantifiable weight of being.

Thank you for life as life and each day ready anew
in cataclysm and exultation.
